PURPOSE
Community Voices for Public Education (CVPE) is a grassroots Houston-based organization working to amplify the power of parents, educators, and students in the fight for strong, equitable public schools. CVPE builds community power through organizing, advocacy, and public engagement, particularly in communities most impacted by underfunding and state takeovers. The group offers a platform for those on the front lines of education to speak truth to power.

OUTREACH
Its members include public school teachers, neighborhood parents, students, and local advocates—many of whom have mobilized in response to actions like the state takeover of Houston ISD. CVPE centers the voices of Black, Brown, and working-class communities in the education justice movement.

Our schools. Our voices. Our power.

Ending State Takeovers and Restoring Local Control

CVPE has been a leading voice against the TEA’s takeover of Houston ISD, organizing community events, forums, and protests. It advocates for democratically elected school boards and opposes authoritarian state intervention in local school governance.

Fighting for Racial and Economic Equity in Schools

The organization pushes for fair funding, desegregated schools, and culturally affirming curriculum. It supports policy change that addresses structural inequalities in Texas public education.

Building Long-Term Community Power

CVPE cultivates leadership from within the communities it serves, training parents and students to be effective organizers and public advocates for their schools.
