Celebrate Public Schools

PURPOSE
Texas AFT is a statewide labor union representing non‑administrative certified and classified public school employees, as well as faculty and staff in higher education. It advocates for better pay, working conditions, educational equity, and robust public school funding. The organization engages members in policy advocacy, collective bargaining, professional development, and public campaigns to protect public education in Texas.
OUTREACH
Texas AFT represents a broad cross-section of public education personnel: classroom teachers, counselors, librarians, diagnosticians, instructional aides, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, nurses, clerical staff, and other support personnel in K–12. It also includes faculty and staff in colleges and universities (through higher education locals).
A union standing all in for Texas public schools.
Stronger Pay & Working Conditions
Texas AFT fights for fair compensation and improved benefits for educators and staff, pushing for raises, smaller class sizes, and more support resources. It advocates for safe and supportive working environments to retain talent and reduce burnout.
Equitable Public School Funding
The union pushes state policy to fully fund public education and oppose efforts to divert money to private or voucher models. It emphasizes funding equity so schools in historically under-resourced districts can catch up.
Professional Development & Member Supports
Through its Bridges Institute and other programs, Texas AFT offers training, leadership development, and continuing education opportunities for members. It helps build capacity, strengthen instructional practice, and provide career pathways within education.
