PURPOSE
TREA is a statewide organization dedicated to promoting quality educational opportunities and experiences for children in rural public schools across Texas. Since its founding in 1992, TREA has served as a voice for rural districts, advocating for equitable policy, providing professional development, and building leadership capacity in less‑resourced settings. It works through legislative advocacy, networking, training, and resource support to strengthen rural schools’ ability to compete and thrive.

OUTREACH
TREA’s membership includes rural school districts, superintendents, principals, teachers, school boards, and supporting staff throughout rural regions of Texas. (txrea.com) Districts join as institutional members, and individual educators and administrators also participate through conferences, committees, and advocacy networks. (txrea.com) The member list is publicly shown by district on the TREA site, reflecting broad rural representation across Texas counties.

Where rural matters in Texas schools.

Advocacy for Rural Schools

TREA lobbies and engages legislative committees to ensure rural districts’ needs are heard in state education policy. It works to prevent funding cuts, ensure equitable resource allocation, and push back against one-size-fits-all mandates that disproportionately harm small, rural schools.

Professional Development and Leadership Support

The organization provides training, networking, mentoring, and conferences tailored to rural educators’ challenges, helping local leaders strengthen instructional practices and administrative capacity in isolated areas.

Sustainability and Collaboration

TREA fosters partnerships among rural districts and with state agencies to share resources, innovate together, and build resilience. It also works to sustain rural school viability through recruitment, retention, infrastructure support, and highlighting rural assets.
